[Rec] [2007] - Spain

REC (or [●REC]) is a 2007 Spanish horror film co-directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza.
The camerawork and basic concept is familiar to The Blair Witch Project in that it's recorded entirely on "amateur" camera, where the cameraman is also just a character in the story. The film name, derived from the blinking text showing that the camera is recording, underlines the idea.

REC revolves around a television reporter, Ángela, and her cameraman, Pablo, who cover the night shift in one of Barcelona's local fire stations. The firehouse receives a call from an old lady trapped in her house. When they arrive, and the firemen and the police break down the door, the old lady suddenly attacks and bites one of the policemen, and it is revealed that an unknown but virulent disease is infecting people, causing them to turn into zombies.

This is truly a superb horror movie. The way it's filmed helps us to live this "nightmare" as it was for real, as if it was a news article.

At its best, "[REC]" is a stress test, with genuinely frightening and surreal use of grainy, fidgety camerawork and eerie night-vision.Gripping, unsettling and truly horrific, [REC] is much more than the gimmick suggested by its title. Prepare to squirm, wince and wonder at how a potential Blair Witch knock-off is quite so grimy and engrossing. And don’t eat dinner before you see it.

The final reel is real eyes-behind-your-fingers type stuff with the filmmakers cranking up the audience's apprehension to I-really-would-rather-be-somewhere-else levels.

Best part about the movie is its brilliantly staged early scare signals that the safety rails are off and, despite an unexpected, last-minute swerve into the supernatural realm, the edge-of-the-seat tension is sustained to the very last second.

A US remake is undergoing production and is expected to be release this October , 2008. named as Quarantine .

Highly recommended for Horror Movie fans .

Eyes Without a Face (1959) - France

Eyes Without a Face ( Les Yeux sans visage) is a 1959 French horror film adaptation of Jean Redon's novel of the same name. Directed by French filmmaker Georges Franju, the film stars Pierre Brasseur as Doctor Génessier, Alida Valli as Louise and Edith Scob as Christiane Génessier. The plot revolves around the obsessive Doctor Génessier attempting experimental heterografting surgery to restore his daughter Christiane's face which has been horribly disfigured in a car accident. With the help of Louise, Doctor Génessier lures young women into his home laboratory to perform experiments on them that will restore Christiane's beauty.

Eyes Without a Face has the staging and rhythm of Noir, and, up until one incredible scene, employs horror with implication and ambiance. A classic French horror famous for its cult status.
It’s not a masterpiece but it certainly isn’t forgettable. It has some queasy scenes, but unclear progression and plodding direction give this an old-fashioned air. As absurd and as beautiful as a fairy tale. A masterpiece of poetic horror and tactful, tactile brutality.

Not much to tell about this , as this is a classic horror , very few people likes to watch classic horror as modern horror movies are dominating at present . But this is a must watch for horror movie fans or to keep in their collection .

The Eye (2002) - Hong Kong

The Eye is a 2002 Cantonese horror film directed by Oxide Pang Chun And Danny Pang.

The Eye is a story of a blind girl who gets a cornea transplant so that she would be able to see again. However, she got more than what she bargained for when she realised she could even see ghosts. And some of these ghosts are down right unfriendly. So she embarks on a journey to find the origins of her cornea and to reveal the history of the previous dead owner ...

This movie has two remakes -

1.) Naina - Indian ( 2005 )
2.) The Eye - USA ( 2008 )

Naina , The indian remake - Its release caused controversy in India because its depiction of the protagonist seeing ghosts after receiving a Cornea Transplant was similar to existing fears in India surrounding corneal transplants and it was feared the film would discourage people from
donating cornea or seeking corneal transplants .

But in my opinion , the original one - Chinese version was the best . The scenes are not little scary but too scary . When i was watching this movie on my PC with headphones applied one scene from this movie really chilled me out .

Great horror to watch for and keeping in your collection .

Supernatural (2005-????)

First off, this is not a movie, but its one of the best Sci-fi/horror shows ever, it even beats the famous X-files series from the '90's.

22 years ago, John Winchester awoke in the middle of the night to find his wife, Mary, pinned to the ceiling, bleeding from the stomach, and set aflame. He managed to get his sons, 4-year-old Dean and six-month old Sam, out of the house, but Mary was killed leaving John devastated and determined for revenge against the supernatural thing that killed her. Present day, John has raised his sons to fight supernatural forces. Demons, ghosts, even cryptologic creatures. However, they can't find the thing that killed Mary. With his constant clashes with his father, Sam becomes disenchanted with the hunter's lifestyle, and goes away to college, where he falls in love with a girl named Jessica Moore. After years of estrangement, Dean shows up at Sam and Jess' one night to ask for Sam's help to look for their father who had gone missing during a "hunting trip". At first, Sam is reluctant to be roped back into the world of hunting and prefers his "safe" normal life he had managed to make for himself with Jess, but when he finds Jess dead through the same M.O. as their mother, he sets out with Dean to find their father by following any supernatural leads they can find across the country, hoping they track him down.

The Dark Knight (2008)

Okay so this might not be a horror movie, more in the lines of a mystery/thriller, but i feel obligated to add this movie to my list. This movie beats movies such as "The Godfather" and "The Shawshank redemption"

With just one year passed after taking out Ra's Al Ghul's plan to have Gotham eliminated and the mysterious disappearance of Dr. Jonathan Crane AKA the Scarecrow, after the city was nearly plundered with his toxins, Bruce Wayne and his vigilante alter-ego the Batman, continue the seemingly-endless effort to bring order to Gotham, with the help of Lt. James Gordon and newly appointed District Attorney Harvey Dent, but a new threat has now emerged into the streets. The Dark Knight faces a rising psychopathic criminal called The Joker, who's eerie grin, laughter, and inhuman morality makes him more dangerous than what he has yet to unleash. It becomes an agenda to the Batman to stop the mysterious Joker at all cost, knowing that the both of them are in the opposite line. One with no method at all and seeks to see the world plunge into the fire he has yet to lit. One who represents the symbol of hope and uses his own shadow to bring the peace and order he has yet to accomplish on doing.

Set within a year after the events of Batman Begins, Batman, Lieutenant James Gordon, and new district attorney Harvey Dent successfully begin to round up the criminals that plague Gotham City until a mysterious and sadistic criminal mastermind known only as the Joker appears in Gotham, creating a new wave of chaos. Batman's struggle against the Joker becomes deeply personal, forcing him to "confront everything he believes" and improve his technology to stop him. A love triangle develops between Bruce Wayne, Dent and Rachel Dawes.

Dawn of The Dead (2004)

Dawn of the Dead is a 2004 horror film reimagining of George A. Romero's 1978 film of the same name. The remake and original both depict a handful of human survivors living in a shopping mall surrounded by swarms of zombies, but the details differ significantly.

A nurse, a policeman, a street gang member, his wife, a salesman, and other survivors of a worldwide plague that is producing aggressive, flesh-eating zombies, take refuge in a mega Midwestern shopping mall.
The cast is excellent, the cinematography and editing exciting and innovative, and the makeup and "creature" effects are top notch. As good as the original, with exciting new directions and room for a sequel!

This is COMPLETELY Zombie-riffic! Be sure to turn your sound on!
